Comparison between SDI and NAAMM manufacturers

Steel material
SDI 100: The base products are made in cold rolled steel. Design professionals need to specify when a galvanized or galvannealed product is required.  Lead time may vary between cold rolled steel and galvannealed products.
NAAMM: Galvannealed products are standard. Does not affect the lead time.

Frame forming
SDI 100: No required method used to form the frame profile. Most SDI members are roll forming for cost efficiency.
NAAMM: Frames are brake formed which produces a sharper bend with a neat appearance. This manufacturing process allows more flexibility to meet design requirements.

Frame assembly
SDI 100: For most SDI members, welded frames are not factory welded. Usually, they are welded at the distributor's location. SDI 100 accepts face welds with a visible seam.
NAAMM: Welded frames are welded at the factory, for consistent quality. Face welds are always seamless.

Door cores
SDI 100: No required method used to bond the door cores to the door faces. Some manufacturers will provide polystyrene core as their standard.
NAAMM: Most manufacturers will provide steel stiffened core as their standard.

Door seams
SDI 100: Accepts seamless doors without welded seams.
NAAMM: Seamless doors are manufactured with continuously welded seams unless otherwise specified.

Vision kits
SDI 100: No specific design required for the vision kits.
NAAMM: Flexible designs are available such as full flush kit.  The sandwich kit is usually the standard model.

Hardware reinf.
SDI 100: Requires 10-gauge (0.123"/3.1 mm) flat hinge reinforcements
NAAMM: Requires 7-gauge (0.167"/4.2 mm) flat hinge reinforcements to prevent door sagging.

Primer
SDI 100: Requires compliance with ANSI A 250.10. This standard includes the Salt Spray Test, Condensation Test, Impact Test and Film Adhesion Test.
NAAMM: Requires compliance with ASTM D1735 and ASTM B117. These standards include the Salt Spray Test and the Condensation Test.

Product Selection
SDI 100: Most SDI members will provide standard products for stocking distributors.  The distributors will handle the products and weld it themselves when necessary for the project.
NAAMM: Most NAAMM members will factory welded their products and deliver directly to the jobsite or to the distributor's location.

de La Fontaine is a NAAMM manufacturer.  We comply with all the NAAMM specification requirements and often exceed them. We offer design flexibility, consistent quality and a quick lead time of 2 to 3 weeks, delivered to the jobsite, for welded frames and continuously welded doors.
